ASC Explores Split-Diopter Framing and Low-Light Choices on 'Verity'

In an American Cinematographer feature published Nov. 3, cinematographer Jim Frohna describes pairing a Sony Venice 2 with Panavision T Series anamorphic lenses for Verity. One suspense scene used a 75 mm lens with a +1 split diopter, holding foreground lovers and a distant hallway figure in the same frame. For a dim kitchen scene, two LiteMat Spectrum 1 fixtures were diffused through muslin, with the camera rated at ISO 3200 and 3800 K and lamps set to 2700 K. This is a production case study, not a new equipment launch.

GLOBAL IMAGING BRIEF

Why it matters

Analysis: The example shows how optical depth cues, selective focus and mixed color temperatures can serve the narrative together. Reproducing the look requires testing diopter boundaries, lens coverage and practical-light continuity on the actual set.
