GLOBAL IMAGING BRIEF
Why it matters
The proposed combination would extend Cognex from industrial identification and inspection into 3D robotic perception, potentially changing how OEMs source depth cameras and machine-vision systems.
Cognex announced on September 22 a definitive agreement to acquire depth-camera company RealSense for approximately $500 million in cash and investments. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to conditions; it has not closed yet.

Full perspective
The announcement is an agreement, not a completed acquisition. Cognex said RealSense is expected to generate $80 million to $90 million in 2026 revenue, and that the transaction is subject to customary closing conditions.
RealSense supplies depth-sensing cameras for mobile robots and other autonomous platforms. Cognex already sells industrial identification and machine-vision systems. A combined portfolio could give equipment makers a broader route from 2D inspection to 3D perception, although integration and commercial benefits remain prospective until closing and execution.
