GLOBAL IMAGING BRIEF
Why it matters
Analysis: Higher pixel density in an existing camera footprint may simplify upgrades for laboratories, but lens sampling, calibration and data-throughput requirements still need system-level validation.
An October 19 industry report describes FLIR's A8481 as a compact science camera for mid-wave infrared measurements. FLIR's product page specifies a 1280 x 1024 HOT SLS detector, a 3.4-5.1 µm spectral range, radiometric capture and Gigabit Ethernet or CoaXPress connectivity. The camera retains A-Series mounting and optics compatibility; the A8481 adds motorized lens control and a three-position filter wheel. Availability and application performance should be confirmed with FLIR for each market and configuration.
