Hamamatsu Introduces Uncooled InAsSb Detector for Mid-IR Measurement

In an Oct. 29 release, Hamamatsu Photonics Europe introduced the P17442-011MS InAsSb photovoltaic detector for gas analysis and remote temperature measurement. The company lists a 1 x 1 mm active area, a typical 5.3 micrometre cutoff and a typical 15 ns rise time. It describes the device as RoHS-compliant and uncooled. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent system-level measurements.

GLOBAL IMAGING BRIEF

Why it matters

Analysis: An uncooled, lead-free mid-IR detector may simplify some sensing designs, but buyers still need to verify noise, temperature drift, optical window transmission and electronics under their own measurement bandwidth and environment.
