Infineon and EverProX pair 20 Gbps USB3 Vision with a 10-meter optical cable

Infineon and EverProX announced a collaboration on September 30 combining the EZ-USB FX20 controller with a 10-meter USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 active optical cable. The companies state up to 20 Gbps data transfer for USB3 Vision cameras, with optical data transmission and copper conductors supplying power in one cable.

GLOBAL IMAGING BRIEF

Why it matters

Analysis: longer camera-to-host reach could simplify factory layouts and reduce copper signal-loss constraints. Sustained image throughput, power budget, connector endurance and USB3 Vision interoperability still require system-level tests.

Full perspective

The release describes a controller-and-cable solution for high-resolution industrial cameras. Its quoted 20 Gbps is the upper interface data rate, not proof that every camera, host and image format will sustain that payload over the full cable length.

Integration questions

Before deployment, test continuous capture at the target pixel format and frame rate, including dropped-frame statistics and host CPU loading. Verify camera power consumption against cable delivery, bend radius in moving fixtures, connector retention and behavior after power interruptions. Active optical cable data is fiber-based, but the power conductors and endpoints still need electrical-noise and grounding review.
