Teledyne adds 32K line-scan imaging for wafer and electronics inspection
Teledyne DALSA announced the Linea ML 32K line-scan camera. Its published specifications include 2.5-micrometer pixels, a maximum 150 kHz line rate, and configurable multiline capture. The supplier identifies semiconductor wafers and electronics as target inspection applications.
GLOBAL IMAGING BRIEF
Why it matters
Analysis: wider line coverage may reduce the number of cameras in a wafer-inspection layout, but the useful resolution depends on lens quality, illumination, transport speed, bandwidth and defect-detection validation together.
Full perspective
The new 32K model extends an existing Linea ML family rather than defining a new inspection process by itself. Teledyne also describes HDR and sequential-exposure options. Its release lists a September 28 page header but carries a September 29 dateline; this edition refers to the announcement without treating the discrepancy as a second launch.
Analysis: qualify the entire scan chain
A 32K sensor can capture more samples across a moving substrate, but a buyer should check object-space sampling, illumination uniformity, lens MTF at the field edge, line synchronization and data throughput under the intended operating speed. A trial should measure real defect-detection and false-alarm rates on representative wafers or boards; the camera specification alone does not establish those outcomes.
